Blocking and Side Stepping were the focus for the third week of January. Students practiced applying various high and low blocks from Closing Stance and Ready Stance, with and without side stepping. Be patient and don't be afraid to go slow when learning side stepping. it takes hard work and many reps to begin to feel comfortable with the footwork and how to correctly apply the technique.

This week was spent practicing all the basics. Students started with Front Thrust Kick, then Continuous Punch Close, followed by Single Punch Close, a continuous inner and outer deflecting exercise and finally 2 on 1 sticking. After finishing the first set, they were to repeat the set with Side Thrust Kick, repeat again with Roundhouse, and so on, until they went through all kicks in their level, followed by the punching and blocking exercises each time. Everyone seemed to enjoy the tough workout - some even had to change shirts halfway through class!
